The Cairngorms National Park boasts a great choice of 11 golf courses of both 9 and 18 holes. Closest to us in the west of the Park, there are the 9-hole courses of Carrbridge, Craggan and Abernethy Golf Club. Beware! Do not be lulled into a false sense of security. These courses have plenty of character and will challenge even the most experienced player. Our local course in Grantown is a few minutes’ walk from Mount Barker and has soaring mountains and beautiful woodland as its backdrop.
Your hosts, Karen and Alec are both members at The Boat Of Garten. Set against the backdrop of stunning Cairngorm, this course has been described as the Glen Eagles of the highlands.
The other clubs nearby are Newtonmore, Kingussie and Spey Valley in Aviemore. Further afield, to the east of the Park, the Royal Deeside villages of Ballater and Braemar offer 18- hole courses. At 1,200 feet, Braemar is the highest 18-hole golf course in Britain. In the south of the Park we have the 9-hole course at Blair Atholl.
There are also fantastic courses in and around Inverness which are less than an hour away from Mount Barker. This includes the Castle Stuart links course and Fortrose and Rosemarkie.
